Philippe Coutinho, what next, and available for a move?

AC Milan is said to be the front runner but reports from England suggests that Coutinho’s former manager at Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers, is an admirer and that Leicester could be interested in bringing in a star player to both lift image of the club, with a signing that would be the first Brazilian player ever to play for this football club, and of course give the team more depth in offensive alternatives going into a long and challenging season.

The Brazilian attacker joined Barcelona from Liverpool back in 2018, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s project and trying out a new adventure, but this move hasn’t been up to the level of expectations for the parties involved, which resulted in a loan move to Bayern Munich, and with the Germans it was also a challenging period, though being involved in winning both the Bundesliga and the Champions League must have been a massive thrill.

During five years at Anfield, Coutinho became a fans favorite after joining from Inter in 2013 and he adapted well to the style of the Premier League and as we all remember ending in a runners-up position during the spell with Brendan Rodgers in charge for The Reds.

Coutinho is contracted to Barcelona until the summer of 2023, and latest news are that they are keen on a deal happening as soon as possible to offload players with huge salaries that are not in the future plans of manager Ronald Koeman, but suggestions are that the player could also be moving out on loan or to a joint model of a salary solution plan.

According to Mirror, Coutinho could be a target for Arsenal as well as Leicester, and that Barca must cut wages of around £160million to be able to register their new signings Aguero and Depay, who both have joined with expectations that everything will be sorted out.

We just have to wait and see for the next step in this ongoing saga about Philippe Coutinho will end, what we believe is that he will not be playing at FC Barcelona next season.

Messi, no fasit on future, out of contract and will he return?

Lionel Messi is officially out of contract and no news about his possible future, but few believe that he will move on and not be part of FC Barcelona next season.

He had a fantastic Copa America winning the tournament with Argentina and with his friend Sergio Aguero newly moved to Barca, we would be surprised to see Messi not reporting in for next season.

There were talks about him staying on and reach an agreement with a half as much in salary in a new contract, but that is not confirmed with Barca eager to get their wage bill down to a level that makes it possible to live on as a club and invest in future development.

If Messi decides to move on with Man City and PSG as the only clubs mentioned in a possible switch it will be a massive blow for Barca as they see still a future with a player that looks better and hungry and especially being part of Argentina’s winning team must be exciting to join up again with Barca for future play.

Former England and Lazio manager Svennis believed it would be impossible to see Messi in nothing else than a Barca kit, so hopefully the Swede knows what counts and that a move elsewhere looks as much unlikely for the player himself.

The question asked might be how much Barca is willing to pay to secure yet another two to three year deal and if that is only half of what has been paid before, Messi himself might consider those two other clubs mentioned as they could be willing to equal the current contract.

Memphis Depay, a new adventure and chance!

Memphis Depay joined Barca from Lyon earlier in the summer. The 27 year old forward did the most out of his stay at Lyon joining from Man Utd in 2017 after a difficult time at Old Trafford.

Since moving to Lyon ha has played steady for the national team and so far added up 68 caps and scored 28 goals. He was also part of the team that played in the Euro’s creating an interesting partnership with Wolfsburg forward Wout Weghorst and with that in place making a switch away from the preferred four three three system.

Despite seen as a success in the Dutch national team under the guidance of Frank de Boer and getting through to the final stages of the Euro 2020 tournament it all faulted in the round of 16 after a 2-0 loss to Czech Republic and the departure of the bold coach who had the nerve to change a national symbol of a football system, but in some way it worked for Depay and Weghorst.

Ronald Koeman is in charge of Barca and his approach to football is widely known, but he also experiment with his systems and is not really being tied to that Dutch system of playing football often using three in the back and two forwards, so Depay might not be afraid that with Messi in the team he will be pushed out of his best position which is up front and nothing else, and as we know in the past Barce have played with Suarez, Griezman and several other big names with Messi wandering around as he usually does in his libero role at this football club.

Since joining Lyon and also at Man Utd he didn’t win any titles, and his only big win is the Eredivisie with PSV in 2014-15. He also picked up a bronze medal from the 2014 World Cup, and been seen as one of the best forwards in French football over the past period he was involved.

Barca are in to their pre-season and so far played two games. Depay was not involved in the first fixture against Gimnastic Tarragona, which ended with a 4-0 win, but in the next he came on and scored the last goal in the 3-1 win over Girona, coming on late in the first half with his goal being scored in the 85th minute from the penalty spot.

It will be interesting to follow the progress and the next games coming up with Memphis Depay possibly getting the impact he desperately looks for and really make a breakthrough at the very highest level of football.
