Xavi made his debut in the manager seat at Barcolona in a city derby match v. Espanyol. A team was picked in a 4-3-3 formation, making two changes from the Celta Vigo 3-3 draw, Fati and Lenglet out, Pique and Ilias in.

The performance was good enough to secure a win, with the penalty from Depay being the only goal in the game scored after 48 minutes. A 1-0 win in an opener will always be regarded as a good start.

Xavi believe this start will put fuel to a possible league title and believe he can chase the top teams being 6th at the moment with a ten point gap to Real Madrid at this very moment. It looks a bit difficult as we all know Real Madrid and their strenghts but of course not impossible.

Xavi will play Benfica in their next fixture at home. This will be a perfect game to take his project to the next level and securing a win here will see this as a perfect start with a team that looks like possible contender for the final.

The progress of the young players at the club will be the key going forward with a number of very experienced players still at the club and of course they will be important in the integration of Fati and Gavi as they are ready to fly.

The excitement around the place must electric as Xavi will start his job to get this club back to what they are and of course that will be more than possible.

Xavi is on a mission and his return makes the players probably believing more and getting self confident with especially Memphis Depay doing a good season so far with 7 goals in 13 games. The 27 year old is a natural goalscorer and he will be there to help Xavi achieve his targets.

Interesting to see how the Xavi influence will put a lock on the sadness of Lionel Messi leaving and the forward thinking will be in good condition as this club will be back flying.
